Underground Multimedia Exhibition
The Underground Multimedia Exhibition is a unique attraction that takes you on a fascinating journey through the history of the mine.
You will start in the Middle Ages and travel to the present day, encountering Polish kings, Genoese mine administrators, and the spirit of a Cistercian monk along the way.
Part of the route can be covered by a mining train or crossed by boat. At the end, you will reach Ważyn Chamber – the largest chamber in Bochnia Mine, where you will find a restaurant and a playground for children.

This variant is intended for visitors aged 7 and above, due to the length and physical nature of the Horse Route. Good walking shoes and a moderate level of fitness are advised.

The Horse Route is one of the mine’s oldest tunnels, historically used for transporting salt by horse-drawn carts. It offers a raw, authentic look into the mine’s working past, rarely seen on standard tours.

Is the Horse Route physically demanding?
Yes, this is the most physically demanding variant of the tourist route with the multimedia exhibition. In addition to the standard tour, it includes additional stair sections, an underground boat crossing, and a walking passage through the historic Horse Route (Końska Droga). This route requires good physical condition and is not permitted for individuals with limited mobility or children under the age of 7.
Where does the Horse Route tour begin?
On weekdays (Monday to Friday), the tour begins at the Sutoris Shaft, located in the center of Bochnia. On weekends, the entrance is at the Campi Shaft. It is recommended to check the starting point before your visit to plan your arrival accordingly.
Is there parking available at the mine, and is it paid?
Yes, there is an unattended parking lot at the Campi Shaft where you can leave your car for a fee of 10 PLN per day. For the Horse Route tour, which starts at the Sutoris Shaft on weekdays (Monday to Friday), visitors can park at the Campi Shaft and walk to the starting point. The walk takes about 10 minutes.
Is the Horse Route accessible for wheelchair users?
No, this route is not adapted for wheelchair users. However, visitors with limited mobility can join a specially adapted version of the tourist route with the multimedia exhibition.
Is there a luggage storage or cloakroom available at the mine?
There is no luggage storage or cloakroom available at the mine. We recommend bringing only essential items for the tour.
How should I dress for the tourist route?
The temperature along the tourist route with the underground multimedia exhibition remains constant at 15–17°C, so it may feel cool underground even on hot days. For your comfort, it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. The route includes a ride on a mining train, staircases, and passages between chambers, so sturdy, comfortable sports or trekking shoes are highly recommended.
Can I move around the mine on my own or leave the tour early?
Tours of the mine are conducted exclusively under the supervision of a guide or mine staff, so moving around the excavations independently is not allowed. Leaving the tour early is only possible in exceptional cases, such as unforeseen emergencies, and requires an escort by a mine employee to the surface. For the comfort of all visitors, we recommend planning your visit so you can take part in the full guided tour.
What are the health contraindications for the Horse Route tour variant?
The Horse Route tour variant is not suitable for individuals with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, claustrophobia, or limited mobility. This route includes stairways, a boat crossing, and a walking section through narrow and uneven passages, which may be physically demanding. For safety reasons, entry is strictly prohibited for anyone under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances. Visitors with serious health conditions are advised to consider a less demanding route and consult a doctor before booking.
Can I bring pets into the mine?
Due to the specific nature of the site and for the safety of both visitors and animals, pets are not allowed inside the mine.
